I’m grateful for the Assassins Creed games reintroducing the plague doctor into the cultural lexicon, so that hopefully some of you will know what’s going on with that mask without having to click the google link. (Our sick hooded gentleman doesn’t have the plague, nor is he afflicted with the boobly; but you’ll have to keep reading for the next few weeks to find out what he does have.
The Alternative Press Exposition and other activities precluded my having any time to do comic this weekend and for that I apologize, especially in the middle of a story where the pacing is relatively slow.
Some news, though: we got reviewed by Digital Strips, who seemed to be more or less in favor of this webcomics caper. Even the criticisms that they had were weirdly flattering: The Dawn Chapel was compared unfavorably to One Swoop Fell, the Abominable Charles Christopher, and Maus. Yeah, Maus. I wouldn’t put myself in that kind of company, in pretty much any context, but it’s very gratifying to know that those are the kind of standards I’m being held to even when I’m failing to meet them. They also recently reviewed our buddy Beckey’s excellent comic String Theory, though I can’t tell you if they liked it or not yet because I’m downloading their most recent podcast right now. (Fun fact about String Theory: it is a major reason that The Dawn Chapel exists.)
Also, do you live in the Chicago area? Or the midwest, in general? (I think that’s where Chicago is, right? I’m fuzzy on any kind of US geography east of roughly Colorado.) If you are feeling up to braving one of the furry cons, I am going to be at Midwest Furfest next month, sharing a dealer’s room table with the Thornwolf, who is as charming as she is talented. We will do our best to make ourselves easy for you to find. I’m really looking forward to this con because I haven’t really traveled much outside of California, and also because they like to abbreviate this con as MFF, which is of course the sound that somebody makes when you’re trying to smother them with a pillow. Not, uh, that I have any direct experience.
As the con draws a little closer, I’ll make some more posts with the stuff I’ll have in the art show and pictures of table displays as I have them made up.
