I don’t want to alarm anyone, but we’re ten pages deep into this story now. Crazy! And I’m afraid you’re going to have to cope with the constantly shifting arrangement of the rigging, number of staysails, detritus on deck, etc. until I figure out completely and exactly what the Blanco looks like. Maybe by the end of this story I’ll know how to draw a boat?

Sorry for the brief break in updates; I was out traveling half of last week and didn’t have a comic prepared in advance, and I spent much of the rest of the week laid up with a cold. It’s taken me longer than I’m comfortable with to spin my gears back up again, but here I am, and there you are.
Also, in my pingbacks recently I noticed that Jakebe has written up some very kind words about The Dawn Chapel vis-a-vis Patreon, as well as a handful of other comics projects he’s supporting. Among them are Housepets and Skin Deep, and I’m an avid reader of both of those as well. You might have a look at those, and his other recommendations!
If you’ve been enjoying the comic so far, it’s worth pointing out that the Dawn Chapel Patreon is now less than $10/page away from the next milestone, which is the backer level that will allow me to upgrade my scanner. I think it would be really really cool to be able to scan all of The Way Back with the same model of scanner that was used for the first ten pages, and bring up the visual quality of the story (as well as the other watercolor originals that I still have of previous comics) after the beginning of the new year. If you think you can help me get there, I would be very grateful!
When I was a kid, my mom had these very nice colored pencils that she’d use to do her drawings, and I remember when I was old enough, she let me color with them, and said something about how she knew I’d be careful with them and not apply too much force – colored pencils are more special than crayons, and I remember feeling very proud to be trusted with something so delicate by as talented an artist as my mom is.
